James J. O’Connell

Experience: Since 2006, Mr. O’Connell has been a sole practitioner. From 1993–2006, he was with Bongiovanni and Berger in Philadelphia, where he concentrated in commercial and criminal cases.

Mr. O’Connell was a law clerk to Judge Robert A. Matthews of the Court of Common Pleas, in Philadelphia, from 2000–2004. He has been Chairman of the Board of View of Philadelphia since 2004, where he is also an Eminent Domain Officer.

Mr. O’Connell was an Assistant U.S. Trustee (1987–1992) and first Chief of Station for this newly created Office of the United States Trustee. He also served on the Board of Bankruptcy Judges – Eastern District of Pennsylvania from 1980–1987.

Education: He earned his J.D. from Widener University School of Law in 1976, and his Bachelor of Science from Philadelphia College of Textiles and Science in 1971.

Professional Honors and Achievements: Since 1990, he has lectured in Business Law at Temple University. He was awarded the United States Department of Justice citation for Dedicated Service in 1989. The American Board of Bankruptcy certified him in 1993. He was a lecturer in Business Law at Spring Garden College, Philadelphia, from 1987–1989.
